Cairo, Egypt, February 20, 2021- Heavy Favourites Cameroon and host Egypt started their campaign at the 2021 Men’s African Nations in the best way as both teams came victorious on the opening day over Morocco and RD Congo respectively at Cairo Stadium Hall in Cairo, Egypt on Saturday.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr Ashraf Sobhy, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, LOC, Egyptian VB Federation President Sameh Hamdy and Adnan Bekbak, CAVB Vice President and CC president.
Cameroon fought for 110 minutes to beat Morocco 3-1 (25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 26-24) Cameroon started the competition aggressively to win the first set before Morocco shines to draw 1-1, but Cameroon regained their rhythm to win two successive sets in their way to clinch the first win. Adam Brahim led the winner’s scorers with 20 minutes, while Moroccan attacker Driss Mosstari led the losers with impressive 21 points scored
Cameroon head coach Litouang Albert said after the match, “I’m not completely satisfied with the result, we hoped to win by 3 straight sets.”Our performance faded after winning the first set, and this allowed Morocco to win a set and come back to the match”
“Our goal is clear and it’s winning the competition and qualifying for the world championship.” He added
Morocco head coach Moujoud Ismail was satisfied with his team performance despite the defeat “The performance of my team was heroic, despite the loss, we have very good individuals. I’d like to thank the players and the technical staff for their effort in the Covid-19 situation, after a complete year without any activity”
Egypt upset RD Congo after they dominated the net action 3-0 (25-9, 25-18, 25-11). The Egyptian sharp spike services made the difference, as the Congolese team couldn’t react in reception.
