GSU 3-1 KDF (25-14, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17)
Nairobi, Kenya | 22nd November 2019. 13-time Kenya Volleyball League champions, got their quest for the 14th title on track after overcoming KDF/Ulinzi 3-1 in Kasarani in the ongoing Volleyball league Play offs.
Abiud Chirchir was the monster in attack as the military side cruise to a 25-14 win in the first set. KDF fought back but even the return of setter Elisha Aliwa could not help. GSU won the 2nd set 25-20 as KDF kept reducing the point margin.
The twist in set 3 was when KDF Coach, Pius Birech introduced setter Elisha Aliwa in the late game to make amends. It paid off as KDF benefited from the complacency of GSU side especially in offense.
Gideon Tarus’ clever play forced GSU into a 24-23, then Icah Lagat aced to win the 1st set for Ulinzi.
The fourth set was one sided, GSU led form the onset, but KDF kept a shoulder distance. But after the 2nd technical time out GSU stablised the foot on the peddle.
Too many mistakes from KDF costed them the 4th set especially in service and at the net. Naftali Chumba was electric in the service box, 25-17 it ended.
GSU takes home all the 3-points to temporarily stay on top of the log. GSU will return to action tomorrow against Prisons at 12pm, while KDF will check out KPA at 10am.
The top two teams in each category will also book automatic tickets to next year’s Africa Club Championship.
